Medusa is a well-known name, and many know at least some bits and pieces of her story. In recent years, though, that story has shifted from one of a monster full of hatred for man, sought out and killed by a gilded hero, to a tale of a powerful priestess who was wrongfully assaulted by a god and then punished by her own goddess for it. With additional study, perspective, and exploration of the subject, we have been able to get to know Medusa as a symbol empowering women, a figure often turned to by victims and survivors. In her modern rebirth, she embodies the power of the female gaze. She is fierce, formidable, protective. She is a story that went unheard, living through every moment of womanly rage.
